Jane Austen's Emma

1833 American Edition of Jane Austen’s Emma.

The North American Friends of Chawton House (NAFCH) is an independent US-based volunteer-run non-profit and a registered 501(c)(3) that raises funds for Chawton House and supports its primary mission to raise awareness and increase understanding of the early women writers who preceded, inspired, and influenced Jane Austen.

All but approximately 4% (for administrative costs) of donations to the North American Friends go directly to Chawton House to help maintain and develop the unique collection of manuscripts and books, sustain the house and its gardens, and support the varied programs of exhibitions, lectures, conferences, and tours – all to ensure that the work of these women writers lives on.

In addition to providing general financial support, the North American Friends also help fund specific projects. Recent ones have included the creation of a Jane Austen Garden Trail, the placement of thirty literature-themed benches throughout the grounds, the renovation of Dyer’s Barn, an upgrade of the house’s heating system, and the purchase of several rare books for the library collection.
