Chawton House is a UK registered charity that self-generates 100% of the funds needed to keep the house, gardens and library open and accessible to all.
Donate today to help make sure Chawton House keeps going through closure, stages a vibrant digital programme to inspire and entertain thousands of people staying at home, and re-open to welcome visitors later in 2020.
When Chawton House closed on 20th March, we decided that we were not going to just fade away. We could not lock up and go home: the collection, house and gardens still need to be maintained, bills paid and a new business plan put together so that we can survive and welcome visitors again later in 2020. As everyone stays at home, we know people need arts and culture more than ever, and are using their time to become more creative, whether indoors or out in their gardens. If we can no longer welcome visitors to Chawton House, we want to bring Chawton House to our visitors.
We need your help to do all this. We want to make all our digital content free so we can bring arts and culture to as big an audience as we can at this troubling time. However, when we closed we instantly lost 60% of our income – heartbreaking for us given we had just turned Chawton House’s finances around. You can support us by donating to the Chawton House Emergency Appeal.
Your donations will make sure that we can care for the house, gardens and collection whilst we are closed, bring joy and entertainment to people staying at home during the lockdown, and welcome visitors back to Chawton House later this year. Thank you all for your support.
