Discover the ‘Great House’ referred to in Jane Austen’s letters, now sensitively restored, relax in the peace and tranquillity of the gardens, and find inspiration in the lives and works of our women writers.
If you are looking for things to do in Hampshire, Chawton House Library is an ideal place to visit. We are open for group tours, by appointment, Monday to Saturday throughout the year. Tours can be tailored to the interests of your group and this can include expert speakers. Whether your group wants to learn more about Jane Austen and her time in Hampshire, find out more about this unique library of women’s writing, or explore the history and restoration of the gardens, we can tailor-make your tour to ensure your group enjoys a great day out.
Refreshments can be arranged and we will be delighted to discuss your requirements, be it simply tea and coffee on arrival or a buffet lunch in the Great Hall after your tour.
A typical group visit takes two hours but you may wish to allow extra time to visit the gardens after your tour of the Library.
