Can’t make it to Chawton House this summer? Join Deputy Director and exhibition curator Dr Kim Simpson for an online tour of our exhibition Quills and Characters.
Quills and Characters is Chawton House’s major exhibition of 2023, exploring the art of letter-writing in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. How did people write letters? What materials did they use and where did these come from? What tales do the letters in the Chawton House collection tell? Discover stories of science and scholarship, love, and literature through the manuscript letters on display. These include letters written by mathematician Mary Somerville and her protégée Ada Lovelace on loan from the Bodleian Library, letters written by the novelist and abolitionist Amelia Opie, and letters from the Chawton House collection never before displayed.
£6 per person.
Access to working internet is required. Please note this event will take place live. All times are UK BST.
