Friday 20th March 2026

Venue: Chawton House

11am-12.30pm

Step into the landscape Jane Austen knew and was inspired by on a guided spring estate walk.

Led by a member of our Curatorial Team, you’ll explore the paths Austen herself trod—routes that inspired her writing and scenes that appear in the pages of her novels.

On your walk with us, you’ll hear about Austen’s own walks, but also how she used both walking and the features of the landscape in her works to build characters and bring them together.

Please note:

  • This activity will go ahead whatever the weather – stout footwear and appropriate outdoor clothing are essential!
  • This walk does not include entry to the House & Gardens

Tickets: £10
