Chawton House offers a remarkable historic setting for as little as £15 an hour. Choose from intimate rooms ideal for private lunches, small celebrations and team meetings, or explore our larger spaces for parties, receptions and corporate events.
Hire a single room for a simple gathering or combine spaces to create something more elaborate. Our flexible Hire team will work with you to shape an arrangement that suits your needs, then give you the freedom to make the space your own.
Our rooms have hosted many of life’s important occasions, from milestone birthdays and retirement parties to bridal and baby showers and wakes. But why wait for a milestone? You could enjoy afternoon tea with friends in the privacy of your own room, for a modest additional hire fee.
Businesses can use Chawton for team meetings, away days, client events, product launches and workshops — or any occasion that would benefit from a memorable setting. Several local businesses already use our spaces for workshops and classes.

OUR SMALLER ROOMS
THE CROSS ROOM
Tucked away in the attics at the top of the house’s magnificent staircase, the Cross Room takes its name from the three alcoves that give the space its distinctive shape. Its elevated position offers fabulous views over the gardens, making it a memorable place to bring people together.

THE BILLIARDS ROOM
Light-filled and spacious, with spectacular views across the front of the house, the Billiards Room makes an unusual setting for a team meeting or private gathering. Its traditional billiards table has a fitted cover that turns it into a table seating up to 12. A small adjoining kitchen includes a fridge, sink and tea- and coffee-making facilities.

THE MAIDS’ SITTING ROOM
Perhaps the prettiest of our smaller rooms, the Maid’s Room combines traditional panelling, attractive artwork, dark wood furniture and generous natural light. It’s a welcoming setting for a small meeting or private get-together.

THE SMOKING ROOM
Step back in time in this atmospheric, entirely panelled room. Dark wood, a single small window and a long, narrow table create an intimate setting with a distinctly Tudor character. Ideal for a small meeting or gathering where a little atmosphere goes a long way.

CATERING
Chawton’s Old Kitchen Tea Room can provide light lunches, afternoon teas, drinks and snacks. Dinners and bespoke menus may also be possible by special arrangement.
Alternatively, you can arrange your own food and drink. Our Hire Manager will help you explore the options and plan an event that suits your requirements. Our traditional afternoon tea is £25 per person, making it easy to combine a special treat with the privacy of your own room.
Flexible hire, tailored to you
We can accommodate bookings during normal opening hours and when the house is closed, subject to availability and staffing. When the house is open to visitors, other parts of the house and estate remain in use, but our team will manage access around your booked room.
Wi-Fi and power are available in our smaller rooms, although they are not equipped as conventional conference rooms. If your event requires additional equipment, staffing or other support, please discuss your requirements with our Hire Manager.
We provide tables and chairs for events in our larger rooms. Glassware, table linen, crockery and cutlery can also be sourced for a modest additional fee when required.
Every hire is different, so each booking is priced and contracted individually, taking account of the rooms used, the duration and any additional staffing or services required.
