Sunday 24th May 2026
Venue: Chawton House
Join us for a bank holiday Sunday filled with books, crafts and more family fun at Chawton House!
Sunday 24th May, 10am-7pm.
What’s On

Enjoy free entry to our South Lawn for a day filled with fun for the whole family! We will have a second hand book fair with a wide variety so you can pick up your next read! There will also be a craft stall, run by our talented Christmas Committee, selling crafts made by them in order to raise money for our Christmas fund. This helps us to make Chawton House look magical every year.
For the little ones, we will have some colouring sheets and card making set up, along with some outdoor games to play.
Our pop up museum will be making a comeback: The pop-up museum explores the rich relationship between women, plants and landscape through items from our collection. Featuring botanical prints and artwork, early gardening manuals, and historic cookbooks, we trace how plants were observed, recorded, and used in everyday women’s lives. From the careful study of flowers to the practical knowledge of the kitchen garden, the objects on display reveal gardening as both a creative and useful practice. They also highlight the role of women as botanists, illustrators, and writers, preserving and sharing knowledge about the natural world—whether through detailed drawings, instructive guides, or recipes for making the most of what you grow.

In the evening, enjoy some delicious barbecue food on the South Lawn. This will run from 5pm – 7pm. Please bring your own picnic blanket.
We will also be running the first Create & Connect at Chawton House. This is an opportunity to spend a few hours relaxing in our Walled Garden with likeminded creatives whilst you work on an ongoing project, or start something completely new! Any and all creative disciplines are welcome. There will be two sessions running during the day, and tickets cost £12.50 (includes House & Gardens entry and refreshments). You can find more information about this on our What’s On page.
Please note, if you would like to visit the house and gardens you will need to purchase a ticket from inside the house, or prebook your visit online using the link below!
