Venue: Chawton House

Saturday 16th May, 11am – 12pm Tour

Join us for a Curator’s Tour of our brand new exhibition!

In a world dominated by screens, HomeMade Histories invites visitors to slow down, look closely, and reconnect with the intimate, home-made traces of women’s lives. Through letters, journals, artworks and needlework, this exhibition will transport you into a past shaped by ink, paint, thread and time. Drawing on Chawton House’s growing and distinctive manuscript collection, HomeMade Histories shines a light on handwritten and hand-crafted objects, and tells the stories of the women who created them.

Join a member of the Curatorial team to explore personal letters and friendships, handwritten recipe books and journals, remarkable scrapbooks and impressive artwork, from sketches and watercolours to detailed embroidery. Together, these objects offer a rare and revealing insight into the lived experiences, creativity, labour and daily rhythms of women in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Tickets: £15 (includes House & Gardens entry)
