Saturday 17th January 2026
Venue: Chawton House
11am-12.30pm
Embrace your passion for dead leaves and step into the landscape Jane Austen knew and was inspired by on a guided winter estate walk.

Led by a member of our Curatorial Team, you’ll explore the paths Austen herself trod—routes that inspired her writing and scenes that appear in the pages of her novels.
On your walk with us, you’ll hear about Austen’s own walks, but also how she used both walking and the features of the landscape in her works to build characters and bring them together. We finish back in the Courtyard, where you can enjoy a tea or filter coffee to round off the morning.
Please note:
- This activity will go ahead whatever the weather – stout footwear and appropriate outdoor clothing are essential!
- This walk does not include entry to the House & Gardens
Tickets: £10 (includes Tea/Filter coffee)
