We’re getting excited about the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) AGM in Kentucky this weekend!
Chawton House Library has a stall at the Emporium and will be selling books, umbrellas, notecards, jigsaw puzzles and much more, including – hot off the press – the brand new facsimile copy of The Duties of a Lady’s Maid.
Originally published in 1825, The Duties of a Lady’s Maid is one of many interesting, rare works at Chawton House Library. The book adds a whole new dimension to below stairs dramas like Downton Abbey, and includes advice on ‘confidence in keeping family secrets’, vulgar and correct speaking’ and ‘taste in dressing the hair’ among other tips!
We look forward to meeting old friends and new, and spreading the word about our work and the collection.
