As part of our Create With Us programme, we invite you to try a watercolour exercise taken from Miss J. Smith’s Studies of Flowers from Nature (1818). Smith published black and white and coloured studies of a variety of flowers, and had 100 subscribers. Alongside the outline and an example of the finished product for each flower, Smith also included instructions on how to achieve ‘the Art of Colouring’. We chose her peonies to try.
