Filming at Chawton House

A flexible, historic venue to help you tell your story

Chawton House offers a distinctive historic setting for film, television, documentaries and other productions. With interiors reflecting several centuries of architectural and decorative history, the house can provide a range of different looks — from period settings to more contemporary uses.

Our relatively lightly furnished rooms offer production teams creative flexibility, with scope to rearrange furnishings and dress spaces to suit a production, subject to agreement.

CHAWTON HOUSE ON SCREEN

Over the years Chawton House has welcomed a variety of productions, including television dramas, documentaries, a music video and a popular cookery programme.

  • Something About You — Level 42 music video (1985)
  • The Borrowers — BBC television (1992)
  • Love on a Branch Line — BBC television (1994)
  • At Home with the Georgians — BBC (2010)
  • In Jane Austen’s Footsteps with Gyles Brandreth — Channel 5 (2021)
  • MasterChef — BBC (2025)

PLANNING A PRODUCTION

Every production has different requirements. Depending on the project, arrangements may include access to selected rooms or, by agreement, exclusive use of the house. Availability, access, staffing and any requirements to close areas to visitors will need to be discussed in advance.

We can discuss your project, the spaces you need and the practical arrangements involved, then provide a tailored quotation. To start a conversation, please contact hire@chawtonhouse.org, with a brief outline of your project, your proposed dates, the spaces you are interested in and the approximate size of your crew.
