Sunday 10th July 2022
Venue: Chawton House
Join Head Gardener Julia Weaver for a fascinating talk on the history of the stunning Chawton House Gardens.
Drawing on archive material, this talk will give an overview of the developments and wider English garden design influences on Chawton House’s gardens during the Knight family’s ownership.
Julia will look into what we know about the gardens before the 1700’s and the spaces you see today, including the Wilderness (1720), the Walled Garden (1820), Lower Library Terrace and Upper Library Terrace (1904). She will also explore how individual Knight family members were influenced by garden fashions to create a ‘family’ garden at Chawton House.
This illustrated talk will take place in the Elizabethan Great Hall at Chawton House.
Pre-booking for this talk is recommended but tickets may be available to purchase on the day.
Please note that the ticket is for the talk only. If you intend to visit the Celebrating Chawton House event, you will need to purchase tickets by clicking here.
