Sunday 21st June 2026
Venue: Dyers Barn

12-2.30pm, Dyers Barn
Join Jane Austen’s family for a Regency picnic at Dyers Barn, in the grounds of Chawton House.

Hosted by Caroline Jane Knight, Jane Austen’s fifth great-niece and the last of her nieces to grow up at Chawton House, this joyful afternoon brings together Caroline’s parents and family members for a celebration of Jane’s enduring legacy. Mingle with Jane’s family, hear special guest speakers, and be entertained by a Regency circus performer.
Caroline will share a special artifact from the family’s private collection and the story behind it – a glimpse into The Austen Knights of Chawton Family Archive she’s creating to preserve these irreplaceable memories for future generations. She’ll also share a childhood memory of growing up at Chawton House, bringing Jane’s world to life through family eyes.
Hear exciting updates from the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation on achievements and plans for the year ahead, and we’ll announce the winner of the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation Short Story Writing Competition 2026, with a narration of the winning story.
Spread your picnic blanket on the lawn, enjoy homemade lemonade, and spend an afternoon celebrating Jane’s legacy with the family who continues it.
Tickets: £15pp including homemade lemonade (bring your own picnic) | £30pp including a Regency picnic box by Chawton House
Regency costume encouraged but not essential and we suggest you bring a picnic blanket. In case of poor weather, the picnic will be held in the barn.
All profits will be donated to the Jane Austen Literacy Foundation and Chawton House.
