Sarah received flowers from staff and volunteers at Chawton House Library, and also a bouquet from our neighbours and partners at Jane Austen’s House Museum
Today we bid a fond farewell to one of our longest serving members of the team. Sarah Parry, our Learning and Visitor Manager is moving on to an exciting opportunity at another historic house.
Special presentation
Earlier today, we presented Sarah with a cake, flowers, and an engraved vase as a special thank you for her many years of hard work here. She had a few words to share:
‘Today is my last day at CHL and it is hard to believe I’ve been here for nearly 13 and a half years!
I started in July 2003 working as Library Assistant when Helen Scott was Librarian. Over the years my role developed and I feel extremely fortunate to have been given so many wonderful opportunities to be involved with many exciting projects.
Happy memories
I have many happy memories of past conferences and lectures, school and student visits, group tours, volunteer get-togethers and helping to look after the library collections. I’ll never forget the thrill and the fear the first time I had to display the Jane Austen

Sarah was presented with a special vase as a thank you from all the staff and Trustees
‘Sir Charles Grandison’ manuscript on my own in the absence of the Librarian!
I am particularly proud of our achievements in obtaining two Sandford Awards for our education work and, last year, accreditation to Visit England.
Thank you to everyone for all the help, support and friendship over the years and I look forward to keeping in touch and returning to use the collections as a reader!
We are sure that the many volunteers, visitors and supporters who have been in touch with Sarah during her time with us will join us in bidding her a fond farewell. You will be much missed Sarah. We all wish you the best of luck in your new venture!
