Monday 23rd March 2026

Venue: Chawton House

11.30am – 1pm

Join a special Jane Austen 250 guided tour that highlights Austen’s connection to Chawton House.

“I went up to the Gt. House between three and four, and dawdled away an hour very comfortably”
Jane Austen to her sister Cassandra, 13 June, 1814.

Join us on a guided tour created specially for Jane Austen’s 250th birthday to find out about her connection to ‘The Great House’. Led by a Chawton House guide, you’ll explore the House that Jane Austen knew, from the Parkland and Gardens she walked to the table she dined at and the portraits that appear in her novels. Interspersed with selections from her novels and letters, and including books that she read from her brother’s library, and women writers that she was inspired by, this is a unique opportunity to delve into the world that shaped one of England’s greatest novelists.

You will start in the great hall at 11:30 for tea & coffee, followed by the tour starting at 12.

Whether you are a lifelong admirer of her work or new to her literary genius, this tour brings Jane Austen’s era to life. Advance booking is essential, as places are limited.

Tickets: £15 (included Tea & Coffee in the Great Hall)

Please note that the House and Gardens are closed to general visitors on this day, and the Old Kitchen Tearoom will not be open, so tickets are for the tour only.
