“They grew among the mossy stones about and above them; some rested their heads upon thesestones, as on a pillow, for weariness; and the rest tossed and reeled and danced, and seemed as if they verily laughed with the wind.”
– Dorothy Wordsworth
Enjoy a breath of fresh air as the beautiful daffodils brighten up the grounds amongst the other signs of Spring. A symbol of rebirth and hope, daffodils represent resilience through their determined survival through the winter months, ready to bloom with the coming of longer days in Spring.
This event is part of the National Gardens Scheme, an inspiring programme that organises the opening of outstanding gardens across the country to help raise funds for charity. All Garden Entry ticket costs will go to support the National Gardens Scheme charities, including Marie Curie, Macmilian Cancer Support, and Hospice UK.
In the Library, see a special display of the best daffodils in our collection of rare botanical works by women.
In the Garden, at 12pm, join a member of the Gardening team for a guided walk. Meet by the steps to the main entrance just before midday.
The House will also be open to visit and refreshments will be available to purchase throughout the day from the Old Kitchen Tearoom.
