Friday 16 August & Friday 23 August

10.30am-3.30pm (1 hour lunch break)

Join us for this two-part intermediate embroidery workshop, led by Royal School of Needlework graduate Emily Barnett, whose award-winning work is currently on display in our exhibition, Chawton in Stitches.

In the historic setting of Chawton House, you will learn traditional needlework skills that have been cherished throughout the ages. You will create your own beautiful botanical motif using a number of common stitches and techniques – back stitch, stem stitch, French knots, lazy daisy, split stitch, padded satin, closed fly stitch, detached chain and woven wheel.

All materials, tea, coffee, and biscuits will be provided during the workshops. Your ticket also includes entry to the House and Gardens, allowing you to explore the exhibition or enjoy a peaceful stroll in the historic grounds during your lunch break.

About Emily

Emily graduated from Royal School of Needlework in 2023. Her final degree project won the Worshipful Company of Broderers Associate Award at the 2023 Hand & Lock Prize and now takes centre stage in our exhibition, Chawton in Stitches. Before and during her degree, Emily worked as a General Assistant at Chawton House, and the gardens and collection provided the inspiration for her stunning project. You can follow her on Instagram to find out more about the processes behind her work.

Tickets: £120 (this includes two sessions, materials, refreshments, and entry to the House and Gardens). Please note that you will need to attend both sessions. Booking on Art Tickets for the 16th August will include your session on 23rd August.
