Friday 11th July 2025
Venue: Chawton House
Friday 11 July & Friday 18 July
10.30am-3.30pm (1 hour lunch break)
Join us for this two-part embroidery workshop, led by award-winning Royal School of Needlework graduate Emily Barnett.
In the historic setting of Chawton House, you will learn traditional needlework skills that have been cherished throughout the ages. You will create your own beautiful peacock motif, inspired by the Peacock edition of Pride and Prejudice in the 250th anniversary year. You will learn a number of techniques – felt padding, couched threads, pearl purl, overstretched pearl purl and chipping.
All materials will be provided during the workshops, although if available you might like to bring a hoop stand and a pair of small sharp scissors.
Your ticket includes both workshops, tea and coffee, soup and a roll for lunch, and a slice of cake, as well as entry to the House and Gardens, allowing you to explore the exhibition or enjoy a peaceful stroll in the historic grounds during your lunch break.
About Emily
Emily graduated from Royal School of Needlework in 2023. Her final degree project won the Worshipful Company of Broderers Associate Award at the 2023 Hand & Lock Prize and took centre stage in our 2024 exhibition, Chawton in Stitches. Before and during her degree, Emily worked as a General Assistant at Chawton House, and the gardens and collection provided the inspiration for her stunning project. You can follow her on Instagram to find out more about the processes behind her work.
Tickets: £100 (this includes two sessions, materials, refreshments, and entry to the House and Gardens).
Please note that you will need to attend both sessions. Booking on Art Tickets for the 11th July will include your session on 18th July.
