Sunday 30th November 2025

Venue: Chawton House

A two-part session: Sunday 23rd November & Sunday 30th November

10.30am-3.30pm (with a 1 hour lunch break) each day

Join us for this two-part embroidery workshop, led by Royal School of Needlework graduate Emily Barnett, whose award-winning work was previously on display in our 2024 exhibition, Chawton in Stitches.

In the historic setting of Chawton House, you will create a Crewelwork Hand Embroidered hoop, taking inspiration from the patterns and designs found in Fair Isle Kitting patterns.

By using Crewel wool for this piece, you will cover the following Stitches:

Back Stitch, Battlement, Chain Stitch, Fly Stitch, French Knots, Satin Stitch, Split Stitch, Stem Stitch, Whipped Wheels, Woven Back Stitch

All materials, tea, coffee, and a mince pie will be provided during the workshop. Your ticket also includes entry to the House and Gardens, allowing you to explore our current Sisters of the Pen exhibition or enjoy a peaceful stroll in the historic grounds during your lunch break.

About Emily

Emily graduated from Royal School of Needlework in 2023. Her final degree project won the Worshipful Company of Broderers Associate Award at the 2023 Hand & Lock Prize and has taken centre stage in our previous exhibition, Chawton in Stitches. Before and during her degree, Emily worked as a General Assistant at Chawton House, and the gardens and collection provided the inspiration for her stunning project. You can follow her on Instagram to find out more about the processes behind her work.

Tickets: £100 (this includes both sessions, materials, refreshments, and entry to the House and Gardens for both sessions)

Please be aware that this does not include lunch for your break so you will need to bring one with you to each session.
