The competition is now closed and an overall winner has been chosen.
The winner of this competition was Paul Brownsey, of Bearsden, north of Glasgow.
Paul Brownsey left school in 1961 to become a newspaper reporter in Luton and went to university late (Keele, Oxford and Swarthmore College, Pennsylvania). Subsequently he was lecturer in philosophy at Glasgow University until he retired in 2009. His stories have appeared in about 50 magazines and collections in the UK, Ireland and North America.
