Friday 15th April 2022
Venue: Chawton House

Join conservator Victoria Stevens for a hands-on creative workshop, inspired by Elizabeth Blackwell’s A Curious Herbal, an 18th century book of medicinal plants that is currently on display in our exhibition Botanical Women.
Children can step back into the past of book-making and make their own iron gall ink from scratch, using simple but exciting chemical reactions!
Learn how people wrote in the 18th century with your own quill to take home and don’t forget to bring a bottle with you so you can keep you ink for future fun.
This workshop is suitable for children aged 7-10.
An accompanying adult must be present for the duration of the workshop.
Please note that this workshop will involve the heating of liquids. All workshops have been subject to health and safety and risk assessment for all substances used.
Why not pre-book a Picnic Bag for you and your child to enjoy before the Inky Fingers workshop?
