Students from Chawton Primary School celebrated their favourite literary characters at our Harry Potter themed World Book Day
Last Friday, on World Book Day, Chawton Primary’s Year 5 and 6 arrived at our doors dressed in a variety of costumes depicting fictional favourites. There were several characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Oliver Twist, Alice in Wonderland and Billionaire Boy. As the theme was Harry Potter, the day began with a sorting ceremony, with students picking their house out of a witch’s hat.
Each group then participated in three magical lessons: Herbology, Wand Making and Astronomy. ‘Professor Ivy’ demonstrated the various properties of plants such as Dragon Root and Dogwood; ‘Professor Willow Wanda’ set up her wand-making workshop in the Game Larder, and ‘Professor Moonrise’ compared our knowledge of the solar system with that of the Georgians.
Activities included making a pocket solar system, practicing spells with their newly made wands and crushing different scent-releasing herbs. An enjoyable way to celebrate World Book Day!
